Why you should exist in photos…

Hobart Family Photographer

This photo is a perfect example of why you should exist in photos. My Nan didn’t love having her photo taken but she tolerated it. And boy am I glad that she did. Every year this photo pops up in my facebook memories with the caption “… and I know that I will treasure it for years to come”.

At the time I don’t think I realized just how much I would treasure that photo. We didn’t have my Nan for much longer after this photo was taken. She passed away shortly after my  Pop and she left a massive void in our family. Growing up she was one of my best friends, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents.

I will be forever grateful for this photo of my Nan with my boys. It’s also special for them to have this to look back on.

A recent post from Fat Mum Slim

I’m 100% guilty of taking numerous photos to get the perfect one, picking apart all the things I don’t like about myself. But as Fat Mum Slim also points out, these photos don’t have to be posted on social media. Just be in the photo and even if they never see the light of day, keep them stashed away on your phone, hard drive or prints in a box so that your children and their children have those photos of you to look back on.

I promise, they won’t see the extra couple of kilos you may have put on, the fact you are not wearing makeup or any other fault you see in yourself. All they will see is you, the person they know and love.

This is also one of the reasons I encourage and welcome parents to have a family photo during their session with me. It’s usually such a special time in your lives, worth documenting. You will never regret the photos you do have, only the ones you don’t.
