“The only photographer you should compare yourself to is the one that you used to be.” ~ Unknown
My journey in this wonderful world of photography started way back in 2008. I wanted to be able to take gorgeous photos of my own children, similar to those I’d seen other mums on the internet doing. I picked up my first entry level DSLR earlier in the year and by the the end of the year after completing a camera course I started building a portfolio by practising on family and friends. One of my very first subjects was a newborn girl called Lilli (pictured below). I think my love of newborn photography grew from here.
I photographed many genres over the next couple of years but I think baby photography was where my passion always was. I threw myself into learning everything I could online through forums and photography groups. I learnt about baby safety and how different poses are captured without putting baby in any danger.
Since this time I’ve photographed many newborn babies, I have completed training, workshops and one on one mentoring to develop my skills. This was invaluable to me. I learnt so much and gained a lot of confidence. I became an accredited member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and won awards at not only state level but also at a national level.
I enjoy the journey that my client’s allow me to take with them, watching their babies grow and capturing special moments along the way. Quite often I get to capture them as they become big brothers/sisters too which is always an honour.
What can I say? I think I have one of the best jobs in the world!
